"Our Children - Our Future"

May 2003

Dear Friends of the Paradise Valley Recreational Center:

It's another great day in Paradise!

On February 25th, something wonderful happened . . . the Paradise Valley Recreational Center came into being. A well was dowsed and after a few short hours of drilling it scored a 40+ gallon-per-minute well which is 141 feet deep.

The Paradise Valley Recreational Center ("PVRC") has been established to develop a twenty-acre recreational facility to be used by the entire Paradise Valley. It is located approximately one mile past the Emigrant Post Office.

The PVRC is a non-profit organization consisting of its Board members - who are all volunteers - drawn from a cross-section of area residents. This is a great opportunity for all of the greater Paradise Valley communities to come together in pursuit of a common goal which is to provide a great place for all to enjoy our beautiful surroundings and let the children have the recreational facilities they truly deserve.

The development of two full-size soccer fields and basic changing rooms is just the beginning of our Master Plan. A major part of our mission and vision is to work towards building facilities capable of accommodating many indoor and outdoor games and sports. The development of a sports complex is our next major goal.

Within the next few weeks, Park Electric will install a transformer and 200-amp service for all future buildings, sprinkler systems, etc. The first building to be completed, changing rooms at the soccer fields, has begun. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Chad Standish and Harold Marchington for leveling the fields with their heavy equipment.

This year's short-term goal is to build a soccer field (or two, depending on donations) for use in the fall of 2003 soccer season, a pump house, two bathrooms, and a supporting irrigation system for the fields.

Obviously, a project of this magnitude needs as much help and input from the community as possible. We encourage everyone's ideas on how best to raise funding for these projects. If anyone has grant-writing experience or expertise, and would like to get involved, please let us know. All labor has been on a voluntary basis, but we will still be short about $10,000.00 to meet this year's goal for the completion of Phase I.

While we are working towards gaining grants and larger contributions, we also realize that a small amount of money from a lot of people does just as well. It also is a personal commitment to the developing of the PVRC and supporting the children in the Paradise Valley. There are a growing number of children signing up for soccer each year. Last year we had over sixty from this area. Please taking into consideration that a $5.00 commitment per month x 300 hundred people would give us $1,500.00 per month of working capital. This is just an example of how many hands make light the work before us.

If you would like to make a commitment of $5.00, $10.00, $20.00, or more, per month (a minimum commitment of one year would be great!) it is easy to set-up an automatic draft from your checking account. If we know we have a fixed amount coming in monthly we can borrow against it and, of course, it will help us to expand faster. A single larger donation would also be very much appreciated. For your convenience, the PVRC account is at The Bank of the Rockies in Emigrant.

Communicating with our local residents and businesses concerning our goals will be a major part of our future success.

If you have any questions regarding donating your time, ideas, or funding to the PVRC, please feel free to get in touch with any of the Board Members of the PVRC:

We look forward to your feedback and will be sending out a survey as to what recreational activities you would want in the PVRC. Remember, this is your community center!!! Please feel free to give us your input.
